After cycling the other day, I dropped by at church and recorded this song, For Those Tears I Died (Come To The Water). This is my second song I uploaded on Youtube. I mentioned in my previous post that I had not really been singing a solo, over the last decade. Because I am the only person who can use my own singing, I have to use it or lose it.
Here is the funny part. Few hours after I uploaded the video on Youtube, I received a COPYRIGHT notice from Youtube that the Harry Fox Agency (HFA) owned the recording. I strongly dispute such claim. I take pride in the fact that my voice is mistaken as someone else's voice-a copyrighted recording-, or that lip-sync. Am I really that good, that it can be mistaken as someone else? Well, if Youtube will remove it, I will sing and record it again. I own my voice and no one will take my voice away from me. I acknowledge I don't own the composition, but I own the recording. I recorded it for pleasure and the recording is not for sale and my Youtube channel is not even monetized.
Again, I acknowledge that the composition is not mine but the recording is rightfully mine and I also own the Copyright. The Copyright notice, however, is not about the lyrics but it is about the recording because my song matches an original recording starting at 1: 47. The fact that this is my own voice and recording, the Copyright claimed by HFA is baseless.
By the way, the thumbnail pic of the video I made is not my own photos, I put it together on Photoshop, but the original photos do not have Copyright on them.
The song For those Tears I Died (Come to the Water) according to Wikipedia was written my Marsha Stevens in 1969. The song has been around for about 44 years. Below is the Complete lyrics of the song. In my recording, I didn't sing the third stanza.
